Strava Metro provides access to bicycling and pedestrian activity data. These datasets are derived from activities recorded by Strava members that are shared publicly. To learn more about how activities are included in Strava Metro, see How Strava activities contribute to Metro data.
You can choose which mode to explore using the selector at the top of the page. Hover over the icon and select the desired mode from the dropdown menu.
Bicycle activity
Bicycle data in Strava Metro includes activities recorded on both traditional bicycles and e-bikes. When viewing the Dashboard, e-bike activities are shown as a percentage of trips and the people who completed those trips.
To see the percentage of rides recorded as e-bike activity, refer to the Activity Types chart in the bottom-right corner of the Dashboard. You can add or remove years from the chart to compare how e-bike activity has changed over time.
In the Edge Counts view on the Map tab, the percentage distribution of bicycle activity types is also displayed on the right side of the screen, just below the Leisure vs Commute distribution bar.
Pedestrian activity
Pedestrian data in Strava Metro combines running, walking, and hiking activities into a single dataset. To view the percentage breakdown of these activity types, use the Activity Types chart on the Metroview Dashboard.
Other Activity Types
At this time, our focus is on improving pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure; we are currently unable to support Metroview access for other activity types.
If you would like to view a heatmap that includes aquatic and snow activities, you can explore the Strava Global Heatmap which is separate from Strava Metro and not managed by our team.
